"Oh my... I'm... I'm terribly sorry you had to endure all of that..." Sanuta mustered a calm smile. "But at least you're in a good place now. I do hope the others are treating you well."

"O-Oh, yes, they are!" Lagola nodded. "Th-They've been very welcoming and friendly. I-It's been great working with them. They're, uh... They can be a little rowdy, b-but I'm used to that."
"Heheh... Actually, there was something I was hoping to talk to both of you about," Kendall spoke up, catching Lagola and Sanuta's attention. "I know you've been feeling rather cramped in Evan and his family's apartment... and I had a feeling you would like it here and that you two would get along so well..."
Lagola blinked in surprise. Was Kendall really going where she thought he was going? If he was... well, it was a great idea, but a startling one at that.
"So... Sanuta, I was wondering if you would be so kind as to offer Lagola residence while we're working with Evan's team. That way you could keep in touch with the others and, whenever there's down time, she could help you with your gardening!"

Sanuta perked upon hearing Kendall's request, easily taken aback by it. It had been so long since someone other than Kensuke and himself had lived here, and he had never been asked to offer boarding. But that didn't bother him in the slightest. Not only did it sound wonderful to have another helping hand in the garden and a middleman between himself and the heroes, but darn it, he was already fond of Lagola.
"That... That's actually a marvelous idea! I-I would love to, absolutely!"

"You'd really let me stay?!" Lagola exclaimed, leaning over the table.
Kendall had to laugh at Lagola's excitement. He had never seen her so openly enthusiastic. "I knew you'd like the idea! You two will work quite well with each other, I guarantee it! And of course I'll be here to keep an eye on you!"
Lagola giggled back at him. "Y-Yeah, I can definitely help out in the garden! No problem!"

"A little extra help is always appreciated, not to mention a friendly face!" Sanuta was practically ecstatic the more he thought about it. "It'll be great! You could stay in my old bedroom, we'll help each other in the garden and on the mission to summon the gods...! This is... brilliant, Kendall!"
Sanuta pushed his glasses up, then he reached across the table and offered Lagola his hand. "I'm more than willing to have you on board, Lagola. What do you say?"

With a calm smile and nod a doubt in her mind, Lagola took Sanuta's hand and gave it a little shake. "I'd love to... Thank you."
Kendall smiled with utter delight for his two dear friends, giving Lagola a big hug once she sat back down. "Don't you worry about a thing. San will take good care of you. We're going to have fun here."
Lagola sighed contently, settling into Kendall's arms and sipping her tea. A new home in a beautiful garden, being looked after by a sweet, generous young man and her beloved angel. She couldn't have asked for anything better.

"Absolutely." Sanuta nodded to Lagola, took a bite of his salad, then continued, "I'm happy to have you around. That goes for both of you. Thank you... so much."
Someone to take care of... Sanuta was so used to caring for his garden that he had forgotten how great it felt to have someone else to look after. Kensuke was great company, but he was more of a grandfather figure than a friend. It felt different around Lagola. It honestly made him feel... brotherly. Nostalgic. It was certainly more than a welcome change to his life.
A new housemate. One who was a fellow gardener and a member of a team heralding the arrival of the gods he had yearned to see the return of all his life. Sanuta couldn't have been happier.

The rest of the day was just as fun as it had started out to be. After lunch, Sanuta had gone right back to work, and Lagola had diligently followed along, ready and willing to learn the ropes of Kisono Fields. He had even been kind enough to give her the tools she needed to help him tend to the various vegetation he saw to that afternoon. With unabashed enthusiasm, Lagola helped him weed the herb patches, rake the leaves in the orchard, and pick a fresh crop of vegetables that they took to and sold in Bonsai Village. Partway through the day, Sanuta even showed her Kitomo's temple, a sight that left her intrigued and mystified.
All the while, Kendall watched from afar, only speaking up ever now and then. Lagola and Sanuta were having fun. That was what mattered, and it was perhaps one of the sweetest things the Angel of Time had ever seen.
Soon enough, night fell over the island, bathing the garden in its dark blue embrace. Lagola had retired to the living room, where she stared out the window at the fields of flowers sparkling in the moonlight. She was tired, but she was just so happy. Today had been so amazing, and she was looking forward to another great day out there.

While Lagola relaxed inside, Sanuta was still finishing up outside. All he had left to do was water the garden one last time. He had been walking through every acre of Kisono Fields for a while now, distributing water to all of his plants, tired but dead set on completing his duties.
Kensuke, meanwhile, was in he living room with Lagola, casually watering the indoor potted plants. Sanuta had already informed him that Lagola would be staying with them, which the nekomata accepted without question. He was just as grateful for the extra help.
He peaked at Lagola out of the corner of his eye, chuckling slightly. "If you're looking for San, he's gonna be out there for a while. Boy always has to water the entire garden at night..."

"...So that the water that doesn't immediately soak in won't evaporate in the sun?" Lagola pondered, remembering when she performed similar practices on her own garden back on Alternia.
It wasn't long before Kendall poked his head in the living room. "Your new respiteblock is ready for you, Lagola, if you wanna come take a look!"

Kensuke smirked and nodded in response to Lagola. "Good to know ya got a good head on your shoulders, kid. You'll do well here."
He looked up as Kendall entered the room, tilting his head at the angel's choice of words. "The hell's a respiteblock? Y'know what, never mind. You kids have fun. I'm gonna call it a night." With that said, Kensuke put the watering can back in the kitchen and waddled to his bedroom.

"Eheheh... Goodnight, Kensuke." Once the cat yokai had disappeared into his room, Kendall once again smiled at Lagola. "Come on!"
Lagola happily followed him to her new respiteblock, stepping inside the last room on the right and taking a moment to study it. Like the living room, it was small and cozy, with a black rug in the center of the room and two small windows in the walls opposite and to the left of the door. There were two neatly-made twin-sized beds on opposite sides of the room, a small vanity standing next to each of them. The bed to the left had fancy, floral wall decals around it. The bed to the right was surrounded by traditional Japanese artwork depicting samurais and ninjas.
"Ooh... Nice..." Lagola mused. "W-Why are there two beds?"
"This was originally Sanuta and his sister's bedroom," Kendall explained. "Sanuta has slept in what used to be his father's room ever since their father died and his sister left the garden."
"Aww..." Lagola stared sadly at the ground. She didn't know Sanuta had a sister, let alone that his guardian had died; he had never brought these topics up. She had to feel sorry for him, but she decided that it was best talked about with Sanuta personally. "Well... thanks for preparing the block for me, Kendall. I-I'm gonna go take an ablution."
"Not a problem. Take your time." Kendall patted Lagola's head as she headed back down the hall and into the bathroom, the door closing and the shower starting up not long after.

Soon, Sanuta entered the house, breathing a sigh of relief as he sat down on the couch. He would've jumped straight into the shower, but he could clearly hear that someone had beaten him to it. While he waited, he pulled out a book and read by the light of the gas lamp. After a great day of work, he was thankful for some time to relax.
He looked up when he noticed one of his guests. "Hi, Kendall. Is Lagola's room ready?"

"All set," Kendall responded, taking a seat in the other couch. "Thanks again for opening up your home to her, San. It's been so long since she's had a comfortable environment to settle down in."
A few minutes later, Lagola finished up her shower and put on the pink "I'm Late I'm Late I'm Late" pajamas that Jen had given her. She then stepped out into the living room, smiling and waving at Kendall and Sanuta. "Hey."
"Hey!" Kendall smiled right back at her.
"Guess I'm... gonna go get some sleep now."

"It's no trouble, Kendall. I'm happy to help."
Sanuta grinned and nodded to Lagola when she emerged refreshed and ready for a good night's rest. "Sounds good, Lagola. Just a fair warning, though, I'm an early riser. Feel free to sleep for as long as you want, but don't be surprised if you wake up and hear me out and about at the crack of dawn."
