"Heehee... No problem." Lagola hesitated in the hallway, her smile fading and her foot tapping anxiously. She really wanted to talk about this, but she was worried that it would be a touchy subject, one best brought up tactfully. In the end, though, curiosity got the better of her.
"So... that block... that was you and your sister's?"

Sanuta frowned, averted his gaze and rubbed his neck. "Y-Yes, my... my sister."
He did his best to smile again and wave a dismissive hand. "I-It's nothing to worry about, Lagola. Senuta left the garden a few years ago and has been traveling the island ever since. I... I haven't seen her since her departure. I miss her dearly, but she... was never quite as invested in gardening as I was. The life she leads now is surely one more well suited for her."

"Aw..." Lagola nodded sadly. "Well... maybe someday you'll... see her again. I... I'd hate for you to feel lonely."

"Yes... maybe..." Sanuta set his book aside and stood up. "In all fairness, I've never been alone. Though my parents have passed and my sister moved on to grander things, I've always had Kensuke to keep me company. There's just... this sort of emptiness inside, having been separated from my family for so long. I... I suppose you would understand. You say that you've lost your guardian as well..."

"Yeah... my lusus... Bunnymom..." Lagola stared at the floor. "She took care of me ever since I was little, and she died while my troll teammates and I were on our quest... before I met Kendall. I-I miss her a lot..."
Kendall walked over to Lagola, gently hugging her from behind.

"I see..." Sanuta nodded and placed a hand on Lagola's shoulder. "Saying goodbye is never easy. But that's why it's so important to surround ourselves with people who care about us. No matter what we may lose, no matter how hard it is to let go, there will always be someone to fall back on. Someone to help us hold on."
He smiled at Kendall, then Lagola again. "You have good people in your life, Lagola. They'll keep you strong. Don't ever forget that."

Lagola firmly gripped Kendall's arm, then Sanuta's hand, smiling calmly and leaning back against her angel. "Thanks... A-And I'm here for you guys too."
"And no one would ask for anything more," Kendall softly murmured, giving Lagola one last squeeze before releasing his hug.
Exchanging one last round of smiles, Lagola yawned and said, "Well... I'm gonna get some sleep. Gotta be ready for another day at work."
"Sounds good. Sleep well, Lagola!"
"Night." Lagola waved again to the duo, then slipped into her respiteblock, closing the door behind her.

"Oyasumi, Lagola." Sanuta waved back as Lagola disappeared for the night. Then he grinned at Kendall, his eyes warm and full of wisdom beyond his years. "It's so thoughtful, what you've done for her. She's lucky to have a guardian angel like you by her side."
As he made his way towards the bathroom, he added, "May the days to come bring all of us hope."
Finally, as the day drew to a close, Sanuta took his sweet time washing away the daily grime and reflecting on how different things were going to be from now on. As he contemplated the future, Sanuta couldn't find it in him to worry. This new friendship could only bring good things, and with his and Lagola's help, the legend of Kitomo and the Skaian gods would finally reach its conclusion. Though there would be many trials and times where their faith would be tested, things were looking up, and he was looking forward to whatever glorious outcome would follow the reckoning.
Sen... wherever you are... I hope your adventure is looking as bright as mine.

Kendall smiled gratefully and somewhat bashfully, wordlessly thanking Sanuta for his kindness. Before the two went their separate ways for the night, as Sanuta prayed for hope to come, Kendall simply replied, "Always."
He then stepped out of the house, locking the door behind him, and took to the air, looping back around to land on the roof.
In the solitude of her block, Lagola sat down on what used to be Sanuta's bed, taking a moment to test how it felt. It was surprisingly very comfortable. Soft, yet just firm enough that she didn't completely sink in it. While she still wasn't entirely used to human beds just yet, finding them less immersive and secure than a recuperacoon, it was certainly comfier than the pullout bed she had been sleeping on in the Summer Snow apartment. She could easily settle into this.
She closed the blinds and retrieved her bunny plush from her sylladex, snuggling up to it as she buried herself under the covers. Outside, she heard frog croaks, cricket chirps, a gentle breeze against the house. The natural music of the night was soothing to her auricular sponge clots, lulling her right to sleep in surprisingly little time.
Safe, cozy, and satisfied with the wonderful day she had shared with Kendall and Sanuta, Lagola dozed with a content grin on her tranquil face. Finally... she felt like she was home again.
And as she slept, Kendall kept a peaceful vigil from his rooftop perch, staring thoughtfully at the stars above, eyes trained on a particularly bright blue star. All things considered, he couldn't have been happier for his friends. He knew that they had a great future ahead of them. And he knew that he was going to help Lagola see it through. Every step of the way.
"Always."
