The golden light of dawn illuminated the glistening acres of Kisono Fields. Rows and rows of green bushes highlighted with flowers, berries and herbs of every color of the rainbow glowed in the morning sunshine. At the center of it all, the cathedral of Kitomo stood proud, basking in the shimmering light. The land was serene. All was at peace.
And for once, if only for one fleeting moment, it was going to stay that way.
As the day began, two figures suddenly appeared at the garden gates in the blink of an eye. The Angel and Rogue of Time, the latter tightly curled up in the former's arms.
Kendall smiled down at Lagola as he set her back on her feet. "Here we are! You alright?"
"Yeah, I'm okay," Lagola replied honestly and with a smile. Kendall had been gracious enough to pause time during the trip from the city to the garden, turning what was a long flight for him into an instantaneous transport for her. Once she was free to move about, Lagola could stare in wonder at the garden beyond the gate. "Ooooooh..."
"Heheh... I had a feeling you'd like this place," Kendall chuckled before ringing the bell to alert the garden's caretakers to their presence. "Hopefully you'll like Sanuta too."
"O-Oh, I'm sure!" Lagola mused. Any friend of Kendall's had to be a great person.

It took a few minutes, but eventually the cat yokai farmhand arrived at the gate to let them in. Kensuke smiled at the familiar face and his companion. "Kendall! Good to see ya again, you crazy angel."
He swung the gate open and ushered the duo inside. "So ya brought another friend, huh?"

"Good to see you too, Kensuke!" Kendall cheerfully replied as he entered the estate, Lagola tailing closely behind. "Indeed! This is Lagola. She's new to the island, so I've been showing her around and introducing her to all my friends."
"H-Hi." Lagola shyly waved to the cat yokai, though she did her best to maintain a smile.
"I'm sure Sanuta wouldn't mind if she and I stuck around for the day."

"Nice to meet ya." Kensuke gave Lagola a curt nod as he led the duo into the garden. "Yeah, shouldn't be much of a problem, you being here. San's got plenty of work to do, though, but he'd probably appreciate the company."
Sanuta was indeed hard at work, already well into his duties at this early hour. He was just in the middle of holding a giant ball of water in midair, letting it rain down on his soriki bushes in a consistently gentle cascade, when his farmhand and their guests approached him. "Hey San!"
He glanced over his shoulder, doing his best to stay focused on his work while giving the group a cheery smile. "Ah! Kendall! Um... E-Excuse me, I'll be with you in just a moment!"

"Not a problem! Take your time!" Kendall responded with a big smile and a small wave.
"Whoa..." Lagola had been completely enraptured by the beauty of the garden, but Sanuta's demonstration of his abilities was nothing short of astounding. She couldn't help but stare up at the floating, wavering ball of water, mostly ignoring the glimmers of sunlight reflecting off its shimmering surface that bothered her sensitive eyes. "Is he... telekinetic?"
"Actually, Sanuta possesses control over all of the most basic natural elements," Kendall explained. "Water, fire, air, earth, so on and so forth."
"Oh...! Cool!"

"Eh. Ya get used to it," Kensuke plainly stated.
Once the water had been depleted and the bushes properly watered, Sanuta fully turned around to greet his friend. "Heheh. Sorry to keep you waiting. It's great to see you again, Kendall!" He gave Lagola a cute smile. "And a pleasure to meet you, miss."

"It's great to see you too, Sanuta." Kendall placed a hand on the little troll's head. "This is my friend Lagola. She just recently joined Evan's team. I was... actually wondering if you would mind if she and I hung out with you today."
Lagola nodded, smiling shyly at Sanuta. "This is a... r-really nice garden you have here..."

"Oh, not at all!" Sanuta happily insisted. "Kendall, you and your friends are welcome here anytime! It would be wonderful to have some company!"
"Heh. Never heard you so happy to have a distraction," Kensuke teased.
Sanuta smiled awkwardly and waved him off. "I'll still get all of my work done today. I always do." He then turned to Lagola with a cutesy grin. "Aw, well thank you! I do my best!"

"Y-You're welcome." Shy as she was, Lagola's smile was absolutely genuine. Sanuta was kind and inviting, and his garden seemed like a little patch of heaven to her.
Kendall chuckled, beaming from ear to ear. "Thank you, Sanuta. And don't you worry. We can give you a hand should the need arise. Lagola here was quite the gardener in her youth."
Noting the encouraging look that Kendall was giving her, Lagola picked up, "Y-Yeah, I was! I haven't grown anything in a while, b-but I would love to start again! Maybe... learn about some of your native flora..."

"Really??" Sanuta's smile widened with geeky enthusiasm, the smile a fanboy who had just met someone who shared his interests. "W-Wow...! That's fantastic! I-I would love to show you what I do, absolutely!"
"Great job, kid. Pushin' all the right buttons." Kensuke chuckled as he turned and started waddling off. "Well, I'll be in the apple orchard if ya need me."
"Thanks, Kensuke!" Once the nekomata had departed, Sanuta clapped his hands together and lifted a leg to take an over-dramatic first step down the path. "Well now! Shall we?"

Lagola had to giggle. This man was endearingly silly. "Looking forward to it."
As they followed Sanuta, Kendall grinned warmly at Lagola, happy to see that she was really and truly excited about something. He knew that she would appreciate a day to just be herself and that this would be the perfect place for it. On top of that, he knew that Sanuta would appreciate having a fellow gardener and nature enthusiast in his company after so many years.
There was no better place to call Lagola's new home, even if she wasn't aware of it yet.

With pep in his step, Sanuta led the duo further into the garden, passing rows upon rows of flowers, fruits, vegetables and herbs of all kinds, all the while explaining, "The Kikagi family has tended to this garden since the island's earliest days, producing ninety percent of Bonsai Village's crops and medicinal herbs for dozens... maybe hundreds of generations. And now... Kensuke, my farmhand... he and I are its sole caretakers. We alone cultivate the nigh-thousands of plant species growing in Kisono Fields..."
Despite his tone, he followed up this statement with a smile in Lagola's direction. "Not that I'm complaining. I couldn't imagine a grander duty, let alone a place more beautiful than the one I see to daily."

"Wow..." Lagola looked around in awe, fascinated by both the glistening scenery and Sanuta's story. "That's... really cool... A-And I agree, this has to be a wonderful place to live!"

"Most definitely..." Sanuta mused, taking a deep breath and momentarily losing himself in the fragrant bouquet that surrounded them. "It's no easy task... but it's work I love and work well worth doing."
As he casually made his way towards a vineyard below, he continued, "In any case, if you have any questions at all, don't be afraid to ask! I'll be pretty busy for a while, but I'll do my best to answer anything to the best of my ability."

"Oh... Um..." Lagola wasn't sure what she was supposed to ask, nor if Sanuta's offer made her feel more or less obligated. She wasn't exactly a conversationalist, and as such, she couldn't really think of anything interesting to talk about. Maybe a few mundane questions, but she didn't want to be a bother, even though she got the feeling that Sanuta would genuinely answer anything she wanted to know.
Besides... she was just enjoying the view. No words were really needed.
With not much else to add, Lagola looked ahead to the vines they were approaching. "Okay, um... W-What are these?"
