A ship floated just above the bustling plaza. Even at night, it was still active. How amusing, a figure in the ship thought.
After all they had done before, this should be an easy task. Bait and destroy. Step one: lay down the bait. Wait for the prey to arrive.
"Sleep well, fleas."
Something fell from the ship, the culprit simply fading into the night. From a distance, it could be easily mistaken for a shooting star.
It picked up speed as it hurtled towards the ground, further enhancing its similarity to a shooting star.
---
Meanwhile, blissfully unaware of the chaos that was to unfold...
"Bro never takes time off. Ever. Even when it would be cheaper and quicker to call in the pros. Oh well. I need a break after that Seeker punk and those... invisible soldiers."
Loba strolled down the streets of Void City's main plaza, licking at a green ice cream cone. "Jalapeño ice cream. Always a nice treat."

Artemis had broken away from Bolas for once. It had been a while since she had gotten a free day. Her eyes were cast up as the sky brightened.
I wish for a way home... she thought as she walked along the street with a small bag of herbs at her waist

Ugh, really?
Alaric stood in an alley near the plaza, with a coffee and deli meat sandwich in-hand. He was out of the way, but not entirely conspicuous. Just a guy, near an alley, checking out the plaza. Could have been anyone just taking a break. Things had certainly been kicked into high gear after the bar brawl and his subsequent teleporting to the mountaintop. Now he was tagging along with the man who called himself Seeker, but had briefly broken off with him for a quick bite, and time to process things.
Alaric looked into the night sky, with a sigh. Was it bad to admit that hunting vampires and werewolves actually felt simpler right about now? At least there, he felt in control. The man took a sip of his coffee. Then paused, and looked back up. Something was in the night sky. A shooting star? His eyes squinted slightly, as he looked up into it. "...What the...?"

Loba sat down on one of the plaza's many benches, finishing off the ice cream, wrapper and all. "Ow. Brainfreeze."
At least the sky was pretty tonight. I'm glad we moved here. Couldn't see a damn thing unless you managed to fly above the cloud layer. Relatively clear skies, actually being able to see the sky to begin with, a shooting star...
"Wait, that isn't a shooting star. Technically a meteoroid, but same deal..." The dark-winged angel few off, high into the sky, as if she was trying to get a view from a safe distance.
---
As for Seeker, they had stopped to listen in on any strange occurrences. Perhaps tales of a one-eyed man, or some foul creature that pretended it was a man? But from what all Seeker could gather, a certain white-haired bastard liked to frequent this place. Especially... Well, Seeker was a morally dubious individual who had done many morally questionable things in the past, but even they disliked the idea of certain establishments.
Stopping to nick a crabapple from an unattended stand, the eyepatched individual rejoined their traveling partner. "It's a bit too festive for a regular night," Seeker stated, before taking a bite out of the ill-gotten fruit. "Call it instinct, but something dreadful will occur before daybreak."
Indeed, the colour of the 'shooting star' seemed to be troubling the eyepatched one.

Artemis raised an eyebrow as she looked to the sky again. "The heck?" she voiced as she started to move closer to one of the other people in the square. Mentally she was thankful to recognize the one eating the green ice cream.

Alaric took a bite of his sandwich, just as he overheard someone approaching. He looked up to see Seeker returning. "Yes.... I feel it too." Alaric conceded. This wasn't his inherent ability to detect the supernatural. This was a deeper and more primitive sense he had. Pure instinct. Something felt wrong tonight. He didn't know if it would happen here or elsewhere, but something wasn't right. Alaric looked back to the star in the sky. "It looks closer..." He said, his brow furrowing. "...Too close. And that color..."

As the meteor picked up speed, the colour shifted, growing steadily more red, a sickly shade of red. An aura of the same hue built up around it as the "shooting star" hurtled towards the ground...
CRASH.
With a piercing noise, the meteor impacted with the floor of the plaza, forcing many to scatter. Running, however, would prove to be a fruitless option for those lacking in speed...
From the impacted meteor came gelatinous hands, each semitransparent yet colourless, extending out and grabbing any living creature they came across. Whether it by by arm, leg, or some other appendage, those who had not fled the scene were caught, and dragged below the crashed rock...
The meteor began to glow, and the screams picked up, reaching ear-splitting volumes for a brief second, before abruptly cutting short. From the meteor leaked a slime, semitransparent and multicoloured. The slime began to break apart from itself, individual pieces forming into small creatures, resembling small life forms such as insects, or common birds. Although they moved in a way reminiscent of the creatures they were mimicking, there was something distinctly, inherently wrong about them.
Percy, who had stripped himself of his jacket and shirt, flew on wings made of flesh, muscle, and exposed bone, leaving just the bare amount of support for his lower torso. His eyes widened as he landed, catching sight of the slime creatures. "The hell? I've never seen anything like this... Imago? Any ideas?"
"What happens when you leave gelatin snacks exposed for too long? Hell if I know, kid. But I don't think you should be getting too close to that..."
"You think digging to it might be safe?" Percy was now reforming his lower torso, wings melting to restructure their donor.
"... I think."
"Good enough for me." The brunette turned to his hands, watching as each one molded itself into a shape similar to that of small shovels. Checking to make sure there was nobody nearby, he dug a shifted hand into the ground.
By the time anybody would reach where Percy was, all there would be was a hole, too small for a grown man to enter...
A spiral of violet energy shot itself into the air with great force, originating from the meteor as larger, more complex slime creatures emerged...
---
Making sure to keep some distance, Seeker kept themselves a corner away from the meteor's crash site, crowbar gun drawn and at the ready. The eyepatched individual poked their head around the corner, noting the energy spiral. "Okay, clearly something supernatural is up... Val, you had better be here soon, I didn't throw up a signal for nothing."
"Heya boss, reporting for-"
Seeker slammed a hand over Flint's mouth, the half-dragon making a rather indignant sound. "Keep your mouth shut. We're trying to stay hidden for the time being."
Flint, after Seeker released him, sulked a bit. "I flew all the way over here from some weird desert and THAT'S the greeting I get? ... Who's the tasty thing?" He took note of Alaric, sizing the man up as if he were prey.
"This is Alaric, and he has shown sympathy to our cause. Be nice."
Huff. Whine. "Fine. Whatever you say. Those things don't look too edible, though... They look like gelatin gone bad or somethin'..."[/font]

Alaric was just about to take another sip from his coffee when the meteor hit. Of course. He knew he had a bad feeling about this. The man staggered from the impact, using the wall for support. His coffee spilled all over the place, including his sleeves. Alaric looked down at it as the tremors settled and sighed. "Well. It wasn't great coffee anyways." He muttered and tossed the cup aside. He probably would want his hands free for this. He quickly wrapped the sandwich and stowed it away in one of his coat's inside pockets, before procuring his magnum, and loaded it with standard bullets, rather than his collection of silver or stake bullets. Someone approached them, while Seeker was peeking around the corner, and as Flint spoke up, Alaric also snapped his pistol up and around, instinctively.
It was a man. Or appeared to be. Seeker seemed familiar with him at least, and Alaric slowly lowered his magnum. "I see...." He murmured as Seeker mentioned Alaric's alliance, indicating this man was also with the crew. "It's a pleasure." He said dryly. This guy.... He reminded Alaric of the monsters he hunted. The way he looked at him. But it wasn't the time for infighting. Alaric leaned over to see the gelatin creatures emerging, and his brow furrowed. "Not something you see everyday." He muttered. "And it seems like they're not friendly. Should we look into this?" He asked Seeker, waiting for the man's call on the situation.

"You know..." Paul muttered somewhat nervously. "No offense, but you're a lot stronger than you look."
"Don't worry. You're not the first person to tell me that," Kelsey chuckled with a deadpan grin as she flew above the Void City streets on fleshy, bat-like wings, effortlessly carrying Paul by the underarms.
Throughout the flight, Paul kept his legs and tail tightly curled up against his stomach, partially to reduce drag but mostly because the position he was in was admittedly very nerve-wracking. It wasn't so much that he was worried about what they would find when they reached the Plaza. He was just supremely uncomfortable flying like this for reasons he didn't quite understand. Flying had never bothered him before. Was it just the fact that he was being carried by a demon girl, precariously dangling in the open air fifty feet above the concrete? ...Actually, yeah, that was probably it.
Regardless, Paul mustered an awkward smile and craned his neck as best he could to look up at Kelsey. "So, uh... if you don't mind me asking, what else are you capable of? I-I see the wings there, the strength is a given, you've used shadow manipulation..."
"I can also conjure fire, heal from any injury, see in the dark, give myself fangs, claws and horns..." Kelsey quickly picked up, briefly hesitating before she further elaborated on her more embarrassing abilities, "...secrete a corrosive slime... n-not too fond of that one..."
"That's... cool... Speaking of slime..." Paul choked as they arrived above the Plaza, wide-eyed as he stared down at the gelatinous creatures that were swarming the block.
Kelsey blinked in utter shock, hovering in place for fear of drawing too close to these unknown entities while they were still unaware of their presence. "What the s***?"

The spiral of energy from the meteor darkened, before unleashing a final burst, releasing razor-sharp blades of energy, slicing through the nearby slime creatures, and anything else unfortunate enough to be too close...
A piercing roar was heard, the sound of some feral, otherworldly creature. A silhouette was visible against the dying spiral, its only distinguishing features being a blue eye and a red eye, and a purple mane, seemingly only partially solid...
At last the spiral died down, and the creature was revealed...
Easily several times bigger than a grown human, with grey skin. Its chest and forelegs were covered in purple scales, and a pair of slightly asymmetrical horns rose from its skull, creating a draconic appearance. Each foot held three claws, each one razor-sharp and brutal. A birdlike tail, black fading to white, opened up into a fan-like shape. A pair of wings, matching its tail, unfolded, and changed to match its mane. It grinned, revealing sharp, yellowing teeth.
This new creature took all of two seconds to examine its surroundings, before jumping on its powerful hind legs, front claws extended, tearing into a slime as it landed. The gelatinous creature stood no chance, and it let out a gurgling sound... Although the new hellbeast would not just let it die, and tore into it with its brutal fangs as well.
---
"The fuck?" Seeker mumbled, taking in this new development with a wide eye. "... What is that creature? It doesn't seem to be of our world..." Taking a moment to make sure their gun was loaded, the eyepatched individual seemed short on breath.
At this, Flint actually screamed in a manner resembling a prepubescent female. "Shit, boss! I'll fight hydras, witches, and even mountain mice any day, but that?! Forget it! I don't care about the size! It'll rip me to shreds like I was rice paper!!"
"Well, you'd best hope you can outmaneuver it, then." Seeker seemed more annoyed with Flint's volume than his complaints. "That's your cue to transform."
Flint mumbled several words he would not have dared to use in front of his mother, but reluctantly complied. jumping into the air and coiling up. In a small burst of smoke, a purple wyvern with off-white markings, blue eyes, and green membranes replaced him, still wearing Flint's usual collar and cuffs. "This alleyway cramps both my style and my space... What're you looking at? Never seen a dragon before, little meatling?"
---
"Perce, I swear, if you did something reckless, I'll- HOSHIT!"
William, having rushed out to the plaza with the same haste had had so often accused Percy of having, skid to a halt upon seeing the spiral change colours. He figured that going in the direction of... that would lead him towards the plaza, and as he quickly took shelter behind a newspaper stand, he warily poked his head over, and saw... "Well, I lost my appetite for gelatin-based snacks... Oh holy hell, what in the name of the old gods is that?!"
"Beats me. There's no record of such a creature in any book I've read," came the other inhabitant of behind-the-newspaper-stand, a female with an armoured corset, a short cape, and a cane gun she was all too happy to fire when she was mad.
"Oh, shit, so we're the new meat. Why does this not surprise m... Val?! What are you doing here?!" William jumped, having just noticed the (in his eyes) attractive woman nearby. "I know you went into the alleys, so how'd you get here?!"
"Methods and reasons that do not concern you." Val was unfazed by the glasses-wearing man. "What concerns you is how fast you can get your sword drawn."
"Uh... right! Of course!" Fwoosh. "What do we do?! You've got beauty and brains, I'll just do what you say!"
"Get ready to fire and run. Also, I want fifty gold shillings, the latest Trip In Girl sound crystal, and..." She smirked, watching the grey beast tear apart a slime creature. "Pudding cups."

Alaric looked at the massive creature that was emerging with a grimace. "It's my disappointment to note that I've never seen or fought anything quite like that." He commented offhandedly, in a dry form of humor. He looked at his magnum. Powerful enough to blow a sizable hole in a human, or slightly larger than human-sized target. Little more than a pinprick against something like that. Even Seeker seemed taken aback by it. Which... That wasn't good. Alaric excused his own concerns for being newish to this world. Seeker though... "Given none of us know that creature or its capabilities, I might suggest a strategic retreat." He suggested, as Flint transformed. Alaric glanced over at the wyvern-beast that Flint had become with a look of bemusement. "Well, several by this point, though none that took human form first." He answered. "Well, I'll leave it up to you Seeker. I'll follow your lead."
----
Meanwhile with Paul and Kelsey.....
Overhearing the conversation between Paul and Kelsey, Ranuen gave a small sigh. "Wish I was pleasantly surprised to find that someone could carry me around." Was hardly a surprise nowadays, as the swordsman was perched up on Kelsey's head for the ride, staying low to handle the high winds up there. While he'd probably survive a fall due to his own extremely light weight and durability, he'd probably also be out of the adventure for some time if it happened.
Due to their altitude, Ranuen had caught the brilliant light emanating from the plaza, and his eyes tried to focus in, with great difficulty. But as they approached, it became pretty clear what they were seeing. "Oh.... Oh that does not look good." He groaned. "What is that!? He exclaimed seeing the beast emerging and beginning its attack. "Can you guys feel that!?" He said in amazement, practically feeling the power of the monster even from this far away and way up there. ".....Haaah..... And Percy's probably right at ground zero, isn't he?"

For a while, Paul and Kelsey were dead silent as they stared down at the draconic creature that had emerged from the impact sight and started tearing into the slime creatures. As if the latter monsters weren't unsettling and potentially dangerous enough, this thing was the stuff of nightmares. Or, at least, it was to all who weren't in a pact with an extraplanar archdemon whose true form was unfathomable to mortal minds. Needless to say, the one girl in the vicinity who fit that description had seen worse. Speaking of...
"NO, SERIOUSLY, WHAT THE S***."
"WOW. Isn't she a beauty?" Tri mused as he floated next to Kelsey and stared down at the beast in awe and wonder.
Kelsey responded with a sharp glare in the astral demon's direction. "You. Explain."
"I-I have no idea what that thing is!" Paul anxiously stuttered.
"Not you, Paul. Sorry," Kelsey sighed.
"Sources say that it's a Protostar Beast," Tri calmly stated. "Young one. Hasn't developed any abilities beyond the basics yet. Seems to have some sort of affinity for fell energy too. That's unusual."
"'Unusual' is not how I would describe this, Tri," Kelsey grunted, looking down at the rampaging monster again. "So what do you propose we do about it? This thing looks pissed!"
Tri shrugged with a blissful smirk. "Sit back and enjoy the show, I guess."
"No. F*** that." With a beat of her wings, Kelsey flew in a low parabola above the Plaza and swooped behind a building. "Buckle up, boys. We're coming in for a landing."
"Oh... Great..." That was all Paul could think to say.

As each slime below it was torn apart, the monster felt its most brutal instincts rejoice. With each cry of pain it heard, it roared in triumph. These disgusting creatures were naught but a warm-up. It was much simpler than fighting its siblings, that was certain, even with its limited intelligence.
With a loud roar, it pounced upon a green slime before a human with a curious aura, tearing it to pieces with its razor-sharp claws, and then tearing into it with its vicious fangs.
If the girl knew what it was capable of, she would be trying to get a head start on it while it was preoccupied with the green gelatinous being.
---
"... Worth a chance. Flint, the second we fire, you grab us both and get us in the air. Judging by the size and ungainly design, agility is not going to be its strong suit." If Seeker was scared, they were doing a good job at hiding it, training their uncovered eye on the beast.
"If we die, I'm going to kill you both." Flint did not seem too enthusiastic about this plan, but seemed willing to comply regardless, grabbing the pair by his legs and preparing for liftoff.
"Steady." Seeker was being held by their cape, trying to get a clean shot at, presumably, the eye.
BANG.
A wyvern holding two people in its talons could be seen ascending into the sky.
---
"Wait, what ARE you aiming for, exactly??"
"The eye. It stands to reason that, like most creatures with eyes, it needs them. If I time it right... Ah, never you mind." Noting that it seemed to be distracted by a girl with a knife, and more obviously, a green slime, Val took aim with her gun, adjusting her sight...
"So what am I supposed to do?!" William yelled, clearly not liking where this was going. Val said nothing, and only smirked.
BANG.
"Run."
As if timed, Flint was flying by, and he flew down low, allowing Seeker to grab Val. Clearly, another success for the terrible trio and their sympathizer WAIT WHAT THEY BECAME A TERRIBLE QUATRIO?!
"What?! Oh, I don't have the time to process this shit!! I gotta... run!"
---
As it was about to pounce on Artemis, Seeker's bullet flew into the monster's eye, causing it to let out a cry of pain as it stumbled back, a strange, greenish-grey substance leaking from its struck eye, giving the girl enough time to get away from it before it decided to turn its rampage on her.
Before it could process its thoughts, however, a fiery hot bullet hit its other eye, causing another pained cry, although its presumed blood did not leak.
And then, it was as though it had not been struck at all.
It let out a terrible, ear-splitting roar, unleashing a grey mist from its mouth. One could feel its power and rage from some distance away.

Artemis looked quickly behind her before bolting. You could almost here her yelling obscenities in several languages as she ran. Her knife clattering to the ground as she ran.
