Alex noted Rulett's look to the cap, and smiled at the kiss. "Well, regardless... I'm gonna make sure the gifts will be ones you'll REALLY love. I guarantee it!"
---------------------------------------------
Once they finished eating, the two continued down the mall, looking amongst the multitude of stores. Rulett marveled when they saw a Disney Store, but they walked on per Alex's request. "Don't worry, we'll be back here in a bit." He promised. "I'd like to check out Barnes and Noble which isn't too far away from here." He likely noticed the confused look. "Oh. Barnes and Noble is a book store. I like to read sometimes you see."

Rulett thought about this for a bit. She had never really read a book. There was that one Ryukae gave her, but she had prototyped her sprite with it before she even opened it.
"Books sound...interesting."
She glances at him, gently taking his hand in her own, blushing forest green at her own action. She hopes that she wasn't too forward, or that her nervousness wouldn't show.

Alex noticed Rulett's little movement AND the blush, but didn't say much of anything. In fact a little smile was on his face as he guided Rulett down the way.
-------------------------------------------------------
Alex took in the Barnes and Noble store as he walked in, grinning to himself. The place was pretty big, being two stories. The bottom floor appeared to be filled with all kinds of books, mostly paperback novels of various genres with a Magazine Rack near the far wall, with comics lining a rack.
"Well, here we are Rulett! Whatcha think?"

Rulett looked around, silently taking the details of the store in.
"This place looks nice, in my opinion."
She points at the section marked "fiction", curious.
"What does that mean, Alex?"
She then notices a stand in front of her for something called a "Nook". She quickly turns away, blushing like mad. She can't believe someone would put that word up where everyone could see it!

Alex noted Rulett's curiosity on the multiple terms around them, and pointed out the Fiction section. "Oh! The word fiction pretty much means the stories are made-up-"
He then noticed Rulett's blushing expression, and looked to the sign she had seen. "What's up? Something bothering ya about the sign there? That's just advertising the whole new product. It's like a mini computer that can load up books of all kinds. It's a handy little tool."

"...oh...um...I see...."
She nods, smiling sheepishly at him, embarrassed. She starts to walk to the fiction section, pretending that she didn't just humiliate herself.
In the fiction section, her attention is caught by a familiar form. She rushes over to the comics section and picks up a new-looking book with a cartoon mouse and a heart with an x through it on the front. She opens it up and finds, on the first page, the same character with an interesting weapon hefted onto their shoulder. She holds this out to Alex, curious.
"Isn't this that Mickey Mouse character you were talking about before?"
She was so focused on this that she didn't notice the Pokemon books nearby.

There was a light chuckle as the boy took the book and looked at it. "Indeed it is. Mickey Mouse is on all kinds of merchandise. This thing in fact, is a picture book version of one of his roles in a serious work called Kingdom Hearts."
He appeared to notice the pokemon books himself and motioned to them. "But look there Rulett. Maybe those will better suit your interests considering your previous purchases."

She turns to the books, eyes wide in surprise. She places the book back and picks one of the Pokemon books, opening it and, seeing a Raichu, smiles softly. She looks at Alex, blushing softly.
"I think that this is my favorite character..."
She rubs the back of her head in embarrassment. She thinks for a moment and hands him the book.
"I'll be right back."
She rushes off to somewhere else in the store.

Alex raised an eyebrow as the young troll walked away, unsure what to make of her walking off....
He let out a sigh, supposing he'd be finding out before too much longer, and decided to look at the manga. They were nearby and well within reach. Perhaps he would be able to find some new issues of One Piece or maybe the Megaman Manga. As he looked, his eyes trailed back to where Rulett disappeared.
What was she up to?

Rulett walked to the front of the store and up to the section with the Nooks. She took a breath and bought one, thinking that it would be a good present. She capchalogued it, wanting to make sure Alex didn't see it.
Then she notices a misplaced Shonen Jump. She picks it up and glances through it, curious. She has no idea what to think of the pictures and words, so she closes it and grabs something with a goofy-looking guy on the front. She assumes by the number next to what appears to be a colorful troll fruit gusher that its the first issue. She quickly walks back to Alex to get his opinion on the books.

Alex appeared to be looking through an odd looking book, with a young man on the front, wearing a jacket with a fuzzy collar and an 'X' on the shoulder, when Rulett reappeared. She took notice that the title of the book (Scott Pilgrim and his Precious Little Life) before the young man took notice of the troll. A smile appeared on his features after a moment. "Oh! Rulett! Where'd ya wander off to?" He shows her the 'Scott Pilgrim' book, quickly revealing that Alex had already collected a number of thin comic books already. "I've been going through the collection myself. But what'd you do?"

She shows him the books, curious.
"What are these about?"
She hands the Shonen Jump and the book with the cartoonish kid on the front.
"What are these about? And why is that kid holding those ridiculous glasses?"
She indicates the front of the second book while she says that last sentence.

Alex looked at the two different books taking in each one. He easily recognized the issue of Shonen Jump, having read a lot of manga during his time back on Earth previous to it's destruction. He had read an issue of Shonen Jump as well, and had enjoyed it quite a bit honestly.....
The second book however stumped him. He had never before seen a volume such as this.... But, oddly enough, something about it rang a bell in his head. Taking the book, he took a look over it before he flipped it over to take a look at the back.....
The word 'Sburb' caught his undivided attention, his eyes widening in horrified fascination...
'Homestuck Volume 1'.
"Rulett.... Where did you find this?"

She blinks, confused. Why did Alex seem so curious about this book? She indicates a table near the middle of the store.
"They have a rather large stack of them over there. May I ask why?"
She gently takes his hand, a little concerned. She searches his eyes, her own forest green ones almost pleading for an explanation.

After a second, sparing the book a few horrified glances, he looked to Rulett before showing her the back of the book. "Rulett... Look at what it says here."
When Rulett, she found the word 'Sburb' awaiting her. "Sburb, Rulett... That's the game that ended my life on Earth, and sent me on the path to the nightmarish Existence I had previous to this island." He looked to the troll again. "Sburb is Earth's version of Sgrub." He looked wide-eyed. "This book is talking about the game... And by the looks of thing's, it's talking about a group of people that played it..."
