Ruby gave a confused look as she and Yang walked over. "What game have you two played?" the younger of the pair asked.
Yang bit her lip. "You might want to sit down for this one Ruby. I know I should have when Todd told me the story," Yang offered as Todd sighed.
"Strawberry waffles you two?" Todd offered as he stood up again.
Ruby and Yang both nodded eagerly.

Alex sighed as he leaned back in his seat. Before him, his plate of waffles had been finished off, syrup and all, leaving the cup of milk the last thing before him needing to be finished off. Whatever the case, he carried the sink to the plate and started running water over it to assist Todd. With a few scrubs, he cleaned the plate and set it aside before getting a refill of milk for his cup.
His return was a somber one as he looked to Ruby, sitting down to await pancakes... He supposed it made sense to tell her... But not tell her too much. That's what Todd did right?
"... In certain worlds, there exists powerful forces that cause a particular code to spread about the world, showing itself in different ways... In our cases, this code showed up to me, Todd and our friends in our different universes in the form of a game known as Sburb..." He scoffs humerously, as if coughing out an irritating bit of fuzz. "GAME... I might as well just call it what it is...
"Sburb is a code for Armageddon. The end of the World."
He let those words sink in for Ruby as he takes a big gulp of milk. "That was the most terrifying thing about Sburb though... You could download the game and not realize until you are FAR too late that, by doing so, you have actuated a retribution, that you're planet will be pulverized by meteors under a time limit and you have that much time to escape... But that was the thing with Sburb... It always kept you off guard, it always gave us something new to worry about... It seemed no sooner did we sole one problem that a brand new one would appear and make us, the players nostalgic for the normal life we once lived... Trust me there are plenty more details but... Going into them now would possibly take me all week... Even I can't fully articulate what happened during all that time that much..... And I sometimes fancy myself as intelligent..."

Yang nodded.
Ruby looked down as it sunk in. "So you two are drifters then? With out a home world?" she asked.
Todd gave an indignant snort. "Not really. Sad thing about Dimensional Island- Once you get here, you're kinda stuck. Sure you can hope and pray for a portal to your world. Yang has a habit of going down to the Interdimensional Travel Station and hoping for a portal right back to Remnant to see you, Weiss, and Blake," Todd offered as he served up the waffles to the girls. "But back on topic. That Thing changes a person in more ways than one. And we don't get to forge our weapons, as much as I wish I could have done that in game, we can combine random things to create a more powerful weapon but that's about it. And mine is unconventional to begin with..."

Alex nodded to Todd and took another sip of his milk. "Well, that's not ENTIRELY true. Really, new arrivals can only hope the ITS randomly updates with new portals. It's a rare occurrence though and no-one really knows how they do this." Or at least no-one knows how they do it outside of the edits of a mod on the board.... "Though I'm sure if someone DID know, there'd be no shortage of people that would MOVE MOUNTAINS just for that route back home."
He notes Ruby's look. "Well that would be bad either way. Dimensional Island is... Well STILL AN ISLAND. It's not as big as a country. If more people started doing THAT then this place wouldn't be standing for that much longer. So you're damned if you do and damned if you don't, you know?"

"It survived that Grimm and the weird warpy being tearing up downtown," Ruby noted.
"You saw the video?" Yang's facw pales as she talked.

Alex winced notably at the reference to the video... It seemed as though he wouldn't be able to escape that bit of evidence of how vulnerable he really was THAT easily... Still... He couldn't tell Ruby the truth about that... What would she think? It was already clear that she thought he was odd. He had been hoping to make a good first impression on Yang's friends if they ever came. Ruby especially.
... Still... He knew what kind of character Ruby was... She would probably appreciate honesty over misdirection...
But what happened if your entire game was misdirection-?

He opened a void portal right in front of Ruby, surprising her.
"...... What you saw were the actions of a man under the spell of eldritch gods, bent on destroying this portion of Paradox space..... And maybe the only being that was CAPABLE of stopping them doing so, fighting a battle that was kept contained in the city, and kept from being so much worse then what it could've been." ..... He looked down. "I had no control over my actions in the slightest... But it doesn't excuse the damage I've caused. So... I dedicated myself to protecting this island. This island and everything on it."
.... He dispells the void portal. "Trust me Ki-... RUBY. This is the worst possible hornet's nest you could stir up."

Ruby fell silent. "So that warpy dude was you.... Then the Grimm?" she asked as Yang's hand landed on her left shoulder.
"Shamefully that was me. Alex and I were under the effects of something called the Nightmare Fog. It really doesn't like the living," Yang offered solemnly. "Alex should we just come clean about the whole thing to my sister?"
"Come clean about what?" Ruby asked.
"Did you ever notice how the Grimm version of me seemed to weaken every now and then during the fight?" Yang asked.
Ruby nodded.
"Well Alex here figured out how to sap aura from others and use it for himself. If he hadn't, that video would have been probably 3 hours shorter," Yang began. "And both of us would still be out cold."

"And I would possibly be considerably more dead." He smiled to Ruby. "I'll give your sister this... Those eldritch gods had to show me a new thieving method just so I wouldn't get killed. My powers give me powerful capabilities, a lot that I don't really understand all the way through myself... So it's kinda frustrating that whenever I think I'm getting a hang of my powers, those guys can just take over and they COMPLETELY blow that understanding out of the water... And usually NOT in a pleasant way...."
He lets out a breath... "Still, circumstances aside... This is an interesting power I have... From what I've come to understand from a partner of mine, this new ability allows me to steal energy. And, apparently....." With that said he raised his hand up to show what looked like a dark blue aura. "If that energy is physical in nature, it potentially gives me the capability of adapting to it. By stealing Yang's aura, I was able to awaken the potential within myself to do the same... There was concerns that stealing her aura means stealing her semblance... But from what Yang told me, Semblances are more physical abilities, not energy-based."

Ruby smiled. "I wish there was a way to have you guys meet Weiss and Blake. I think they'd like you," she offered. "Dad would adore you Alex. And you can keep up- wait.... Yang.... did you lie to Alex?"
Todd looked expectantly.
"Maybe a smidge...." Yang offered. "Mine is linked to my aura and there are others but they're rarer. And I did it so you wouldn't worry..."

"........." He looks at his hands.... "I see.... That's... Interesting..." ..... Still... He lowered his hands, keeping his gaze lowered.... "Well... I'm not too worried about that I guess..." He looks up to Ruby... Then back down. "But back to the earlier topic... That's really nice of you to say Ruby..... But... I'm still not really sure. Much as I'd like to be about that... My powers are pretty unusual... my... OUR situation is unusual." He motioned to himself and Todd for emphasis. "And... Even more then that, even if I couldn't stop it, I still attacked your sister... Look, I cannot describe, in words, how thankful I am to her for making sure I couldn't hurt anyone else... But I still had to experience that entire sordid affair and just feel... Well... HELPLESS to stop it... I don't feel strong when I use my powers. I just...."
Todd could finish this one. He had heard this once before from Erin.
'I don't feel strong when I use my powers... I just feel like a cheat.'

Ruby sat next to him. "Nope," Ruby offered. The old Ruby that Alex remembered from 'Yang's' stories was showing. "You're still a good guy. Sure you can do a vwhooshy portal thing but you're still a good person. You have morals. Edritch creepies or not, you're human... You are human right?"
Todd sighed. "Born human. Post that Thing still human I think... I know I'm not a Faunus as cool as they are sadly..." Todd offered before giving another sigh. "What Alex is saying is that when using our newer powers... we feel like we're cheating...heavily..."
Ruby nodded. She was still focusing on Alex and gave a smile before hugging him. "You didn't kill Yang. And she didn't kill you. If anything it showed you two balance each other out and both of you can tank some rather nasty hits," she offered.

Ruby literally could not react fast enough to get away from a pair of arms wrapping around her and lifting her off the couch. Alex was smiling, crying and giggling like a complete dork as he held Ruby close spinning back and forth. "OH MY GOD YOU ARE EVEN MORE ADORABLE THEN SHE SAID YOU WERE~~~~~!! THANK YOU SOOOOO MUCH I REALLY REALLY NEEDED THAAHAHAHAHAT!!!~~~~~~!!! GAAHAHAHAHAAAA~~~~!!" It was hard to tell if Alex was laughing crying or some insane mixture of both. "I was so worried when I saw that Eyepatch~~~!! But you haven't changed I'M SO RELIEVED~~~~!!"

SWEET CHRIST NO WONDER YANG LIKED HIM. Yang herself would've no doubt reacted exactly like this if she had been present for Ruby coming back to work after the injury. They were BOTH overly affectionate and protective.

Ruby gave an eep as she was swung around. "Alex... Just ate....don't shake me too much please..." she managed to squeak out as Yang busted out laughing.
"Alex. Careful. You're starting to float off the floor," Todd offered trying not to laugh at the scene before him.

Alex appeared to hear Todd and notice that he was indeed starting to float off the floor.
Then he noticed poor nauseous Ruby.
"...................." AND CUE THE REDDENING FACE. "Hah...... Hahahahaha............."
Yang just laughed a little harder.

Alex had pulled out a cake for Ruby to try as an apology for the earlier hug assault. "Here, have some of this." He noted the look as he set it on the table. "When Sburb began in our world, my mom was sucked into that insanity along with my sister. My mom was a nurse and she pretty much made it her duty to look after everyone she could... Along with that, she made people sweets whenever they visited. I guess she was kind of a doctor for both the physical ailments and the mental." As he talked, he sat himself down and looked to the cake. "Within my void modus, this food never goes bad, so that cake's as sweet as the day she baked it. Go ahead, have a slice."

Yang had collapsed on the couch with a smile. "Owwwww.... My cheeks hurts from laughing so hard," the blonde commented as she tried to breath.
Ruby was still wobbly and dizzy. "Okay. After the room stops spinning please?" she offered before tilting her head. "She's still probably proud of you for living and surviving your ordeal." Ruby leaned on Alex a bit in a 'You're family now' kinda way.
